The accused killer of conservative figure Charlie Kirk reportedly take responsibility for the shooting on the messaging platform Discord, a company spokesperson has confirmed.

According to the representative, the 22-year-old suspect contacted acquaintances in a chat on Discord a short time before he was taken into custody last week in relation to Kirk's shooting at an gathering at Utah Valley University.

"It was me at UVU that day. I apologize for all of this," states a message from an account that reportedly is linked to the accused, according to the spokesperson and a law enforcement source.

Mr Robinson, who has still not been formally charged, is due to appear in court on this week.

Arrested on allegations of homicide, felony discharge of a weapon and interfering with the investigation, he could face the capital punishment.

The online communications believed to be from the accused, first reported by the Washington Post, are apparently written and posted near the conclusion of a search for the perpetrator that continued more than a day.

The victim, 31, who was a polarizing personality in US politics and a trusted ally of former President Trump, was speaking at the educational institution on that day at an outdoor gathering held by Turning Point USA - the organisation he helped establish - when he was hit in the upper body by a gunshot.

The killing of the well-known online influencer sparked anger, with Democrats and Republicans accusing each other of spreading divisive language, and a hunt for his killer.

Law enforcement sources have stated that the suspect and his friends bantered about the incident prior to his apprehension in a group chat on Discord including over 20 people.

The company representative clarified that an company review had found "no evidence that the suspect planned this event or encouraged harm on Discord".

Mr Robinson is reportedly asked by others in the group about whether he was the shooter, which he did not appear to reject, and there were also jokes from a participant about him staying away from a fast-food restaurant.

Communications from the profile thought to belong to Mr Robinson also suggest that he was intending to surrender to authorities.

"I am turning myself in through a law enforcement contact in a few moments, thanks for all the good times and fun, you've all been so wonderful, gratitude to everyone for everything," states a message.

It was reported that the accused was refusing to collaborate with officials but his roommate was among those who were.

Authorities have been working to determine a motive for the killing.

Official documents examined suggest that the suspect had in the past registered as an nonpartisan voter.

However, according to reports, a relative told investigators that Mr Robinson had become "increasingly ideological" in recent years and had specifically mentioned the upcoming event during a family meal.

Among the former president’s key aides has claimed there was an coordinated effort behind the killing but no evidence has been provided so far that indicates the suspect was working as part of a larger network.

Investigators are also looking at online profiles used by Mr Robinson, and any signs that anyone may have known about or supported the attack in advance.

Kirk, a devout Christian, was a strong supporter of firearm ownership, vehemently opposed abortion, was critical of LGBTQ+ issues, and promoted false claims about the pandemic.

His supporters said he was relatable, understood their worries and was able to hold civil discussions with those he held opposing views to.

But, his opinions drew fierce liberal criticism, with his detractors calling his comments highly disrespectful to some minority groups, including the LGBTQ+ community and Muslims.

Turning Point USA, which he established, aimed to promote conservative ideals at progressive US colleges, and played a key role in getting people to vote for the former president and other Republican candidates in the election last year.
