Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's One-Day International Lineup Versus India
Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-game ODI series against India, as in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a surprise inclusion.
Recent Form Result in Exclusion
Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI team after managing only a single run in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a top score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI innings.
The batsman has featured in 68 ODIs and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.
Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Updates
Recent performances suggest of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.
Renshaw could to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.
The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a Test return as Australia search for a fix to their opening batting issues.

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.
BBL performer Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after being concussed in the build-up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.
ODI captain Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he works to regain fitness from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.
Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures
Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 sides after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to seal a series clean sweep last week.
“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test matches ahead.”
Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from October 29.
